Moving Notification

Population Registration Act (1991:481) §§ 25–27 — reporting obligation

What does it mean?

A moving notification (flyttanmälan) is the official report to Skatteverket that you are changing your residential address. According to the Population Registration Act, you must report a move within one week of moving. The notification can be made digitally via skatteverket.se with BankID, through the app, or by form. The moving notification and population registration change are the same thing.

In addition to Skatteverket, you should inform Postnord about your move by ordering mail forwarding. These are two separate processes — reporting your move to Skatteverket does not automatically update your postal address with Postnord, and vice versa. Verify that your new address is registered correctly by logging into Mina sidor at Skatteverket after a few days.

Key Points

  • Mandatory to report the move to Skatteverket within one week
  • Easiest via skatteverket.se with BankID
  • Skatteverket and Postnord are separate processes — do both
  • Incorrect registration can lead to fines and issues with authorities
  • Verify the new address is correctly registered on Mina sidor

Practical Tip

Submit your moving notification on the same day you move in — it only takes a couple of minutes with BankID. Order mail forwarding from Postnord separately, preferably a week before you move so the mail has time to be redirected.

Legal Basis: Population Registration Act (1991:481) §§ 25–27 — reporting obligation
